World Wide Web

World-Wide-WebThe internet has become as essential as any utility for many of us, providing all sorts of services from entertaining, researching, learning, shopping, booking tickets, filing tax returns, earning a living, communicating, socialising and so on. The list seems endless and is growing all the time. So most of us are consumers of the WWW but there obviously has to be the "publishers" as well. Sometimes the distinction between the two can get blurred as in Web 2.0 sites that allow us to add and share content as well as "consume" what our fellow up-loaders might provide.

Becoming a "publisher"

Now, if you are wanting to be a more of a serious publisher than a pure consumer or a Web 2.0 participant, this site will help you reach a satisfying competent level. So if you are ready to get your own domain and a hosting account but are a little awed by what knowledge you might need, this is a great place to hang out. Our intention is to get you to a level where you can have a website with your chosen domain name.

Coding Matters

However, we will not cover HTML and CSS and Javascript as there are many resources on-line and at local schools and colleges that will take you through a complete course to full competency. It is highly recommended that you go through such a route. But you will still be able to use various basic Content Management systems (CMS) like WordPress and other site builders where zero or very little coding is required to get a website running.

What we provide

So this site will be your fist step in understanding the very basics of what is involved in creating a website of your own. We plan to have you up to speed in as short a time as possible and the tutorials will be very practical. You can choose Google as a means of getting deeper if you want, but it is not necessary. It is highly recommended that you grab a domain name and hosting so that you can follow our tutorials. Click over to the relevant pages to see who we recommend. We choose companies that keep things simple and reliable. Who knows, with further study and experience, you might end up having a career involving the amazing world wide web!
